Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge 2012 Dragonfly Festival

The 11th annual Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge Dragonfly Festival is scheduled for September 7-9, 2012. The festival will be held at at the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge located at 4200 E. Pine Lodge Road Roswell, NM 88201.

This year’s annual Dragonfly Festival, hosted by Friends of Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge Sept. 7-9, will celebrate dragonflies, the state of New Mexico’s centennial and the refuge’s 75th anniversary.

The Dragonfly Festival features a variety of family events including a treasure hunt, tours, wildlife arts and crafts, bird watching, wildlife exhibit tents, and more. Dragonfly, Refuge, and Wildlife tour reservations will begin on August 1.

Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is home to what is considered one of the most diverse populations of dragonflies and damselflies (Odonates) in North America. More than 100 species of odenates have been documented on the refuge.
